Three events in the 2013 World Series of Poker continue Monday and one more champion will be crowned. Let’s take a look at what is on-tap today.
Event #17: $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em
David “Bakes” Baker heads the final 15 players in Event #17, one of the many $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em events at this year’s World Series of Poker. Baker has already had a very good WSOP, nabbing a 19th place finish in Event #5, a 6th place finish in Event #9, and a 4th place finish in Event #13. He won a bracelet in $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. last year, the second WSOP victory of his career.
Baker is in a dogfight at the top of the leader board, as though his 1.384 million chip stack is the largest in the field, two other players – Samuel Taylor (1.216 million) and Athansios Polychronopoulos (1.135) – have over a million. 2009 WSOP Main Event Champ Joe Cada is lurking with 540,000 chips and the always dangerous Barry Greenstein is near the bottom of the remaining pack with 367,000.
Today will be the last day of this event. The field will be narrowed to the final table and the tournament will continue on until a winner is determined.
David “Bakes” Baker – 1,384,000
Samuel Taylor – 1,216,000
Athanasios Polychronopoulos – 1,135,000
Paul Francoi Tedeschi – 850,000
Brian Ray – 778,000
Joseph Ward – 669,000
Everett Carlton – 663,000
Manuel Mutke – 619,000
Joe Cada – 540,000
Michael Kurth – 402,000
Thomas Nicotera – 398,000
Barry Greenstein – 367,000
Joseph Michael – 278,000
Yi Wang – 192,000
Chad Chavez – 90,000
Event #18: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em
One should expect a $1,000 buy-in event to attract a lot of competitors and those expectations were met Sunday, as a wall-busting 2,071 players sat down for the 2013 WSOP’s 18th event, $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em. This isn’t another “Millionaire Maker” like Event #6, but $340,260 is still a heck of a return on a single Cleveland note.
Chad Eveslage tops the remaining 163 players with 134,000 and though he has made two WSOP Circuit final tables and won one, this is his first World Series of Poker cash (216 players made the money, so everyone sitting down Monday has already profited). The bottom of the top ten on the leader board is intimidating: Phil Ivey has 71,100 chips, Men “The Master” Nguyen 70,600, and Shannon Shorr has 69,800.
Play is just getting underway on Day 2 with the start of level 12. Another 10 levels will be contested today before calling it a night.
Chad Eveslage – 134,000
Dan Martin – 124,800
Niccolò Caramatti – 120,000
James Cho – 115,400
Charles Clark – 114,000
Jason Everett – 102,000
Dewayne Wheeland – 95,400
Phil Ivey – 71,100
Men Nguyen – 70,600
Shannon Shorr – 69,800
Event #19: $5,000 Pot-Limit Hold’em
195 players paid the $5,000 to play in the Pot-Limit Hold’em event that began Sunday and after eight levels, just 77 players remain going into Day 2. Dimitar Danchev leads the survivors with 106,300 chips, making him the only player with more than 100,000. The next three – Dmitry Vitkind, Ted Lawson, and Eugene Katchalov – are all bunched around the 90,000 chip mark. While there is no guarantee the money bubble will burst today, there is a good chance it will happen, as this tournament pays out to the top 27 finishers. Those that squeak into the money will walk away with $7,881, while the rest of the field will be chasing the nearly quarter-million dollar first prize.
Regardless of how many players are left, there will be 10 levels played on Monday, beginning at 2:00pm PT.
Dimitar Danchev – 106,300
Dmitry Vitkind – 92,000
Ted Lawson – 91,000
Eugene Katchalov – 87,000
Matt O’Donnell – 74,400
Kristijonas Andrulis – 72,300
David Paredes – 69,900
Dan Kelly – 67,200
Jason Somerville – 66,200
Jesse Martin – 63,200
Also on the docket Monday is the start of Event #20: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better.
