With the preliminary events out of the way (except for the High Roller Event, which begins Wednesday), it is on to the Main Event at the 2015 World Series of Poker Europe. The two starting flights are already in the books and leading the way heading into Tuesday’s Day 2 is Scotland’s Niall Farrell with 157,000 chips.
With a buy-in of €10,450, the WSOP Europe Main Event is approximately the same price as the traditional Main Event in Las Vegas, but the field is miniscule when compared to its older brother. Day 1A saw just 104 players register and Day 1B was doubled that at 209, creating a total field of 313 players. That’s 20 times smaller. No more players were added today, though registration remained open until the first card was dealt.
A total of 32 players will make the money; payouts begin at €20,000 with a first prize of €883,000. 184 runners made it through to Day 2, so it will be a nervous couple days for the remaining players, as the money bubble certainly won’t be burst today. Both Day 2 and Day 3 will run for six levels, while Day 4 will be the day the six-handed final table will be determined. The proceedings will take a break on Friday and then resume for Saturday’s Day 5, at which point a champion will be crowned.
In the meantime, you have Niall Farrell at the top of the leader board along with a host of his fellow Day 1A players. Of the top ten going into Tuesday’s action, seven are from Day 1A, which is a bit unusual, since there are fewer chips on the less populated days, thus leading to larger chip stacks at the top. No matter, though, as the top ten will likely change completely by the end of the day today.
