2022 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Day 2: Money Bubble Bursts, Mark Davis Takes Lead

The 2022 World Poker Tour (WPT) Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown looks to be an entertaining race down the stretch, as several players are within striking distance of the top spot with just 99 entrants remaining. And manning that top spot going into Day 3 is Mark Davis with 3.740 million chips.

Immediately behind Davis are Marcos Exterkotter with 3.230 million chips, Aram Zobian with 3.085 million, and Allan Rabinovich with 3.010 million. A number of other players have at least 2 million chips.

Davis was able to take the lead near the end of the night. Stephen Song raised to 35,000 pre-flop and Davis re-raised him to 90,000. Song then went all-in over the top for around 600,000 and Davis called. Whether or not Song actually wanted a call with his A-9 is unknown, but he certainly didn’t want to see the pocket Kings that Davis flipped over. The board brought no luck for Song and Davis saw his stack soar to over 3 million. He clearly added another handful before it was time to tag and bag.

Day 2 wasn’t exactly moving day (that would be Monday’s Day 3), but you could have fooled me, as the field was slashed from 659 players to just the aforementioned 99. David Coleman was the “bubble boy,” as he fell one spot from the money with A-K against Brek Schutten’s pocket Kings.

The minimum cash was $5,650 for 252nd place. Payouts are currently at $9,300. The final ten players will all make six-figures, while the winner will take home just over $1 million.

The action is just starting to get underway in the Seminole Hard Rock Grand Ballroom as the remaining players jockey for position to put themselves in a prime spot to make the big bucks. The levels will last an hour each until 40 players remain, at which point they will lengthen by 50% to 90 minutes.

When the field reaches 16 players, the tournament will pause and call it a night.

There are still several players remaining who have WPT titles to their name, including Brek Schutten, Markus Gonsalves, Alessio Isaia, James Calderaro, Jonathan Jaffe, Darren Elias, and Ema Zajmovic.
