Born on August 2, 1974 in Vietnam, Liz Lieu’s family moved to Colorado just a year later. By the time she was 13, Liz was playing Chinese Poker with friends and has always had an affinity for cards. When she turned 18 she started playing in local rooms and even opened her own home game. Before long, Liz knew that poker was her life, so she moved to Las Vegas to play professionally.
Initially, Liz started out playing $80-$160 limit, but before long she was regularly beating the $400/$800 games. In 2005, at the urging of her best friend John Phan, she entered the live tournament scene with a bang by finishing fifth in a World Series of Poker $1500 No Limit Hold’em event for $168K. That same year, she also took 12th in a $5K No Limit Hold’em tourney for $24K and cashed in one other event; an impressive WSOP debut to say the least. A few months later, she finished fourth in a $2500 No Limit Hold’em at the Bellagio Fiesta Al Lago for $24K and followed it up with a fifth place finish at the $5K World Poker Finals for $53K.
2007 brought Liz her first tournament victory when she won a $1K L.A. Poker Classic event for $148K. While primarily a cash game specialist, she has an impressive $650K in live tournament earnings.
As much a pretty face and fashion aficionado as she is a deadly opponent at the tables, Liz Lieu has been featured on the cover of such publications as Deal, American Poker Player, Maxim’s Total Poker, Woman Poker Player, World Poker Tour, Flush, and Pro Poker Europe. Liz currently splits her time between Las Vegas and Los Angeles, and when she’s not playing poker she enjoys dancing, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends.
