Known online as ‘basebaldy’, Eric Baldwin was an all-star Division-III baseball player who led his school to the 2005 NCAA National Championship before he was ever a poker player. Upon completing his degree, however, Baldwin realized that he didn’t want to get a job in his field (psychology), so he took up poker in hopes that he could get good enough to support himself. Not only has Eric Baldwin been able to earn a living playing poker, he’s also emerged as one of the best young players in the game.
Baldwin first made waves on the live tournament scene in 2008 when he won the Sixth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic for $148K. He followed that up in early 2009 with a victory in the $2500 Deep Stack Extravaganza II Main Event for $199K. A few months later at the 2009 World Series of Poker, Eric made a big splash by ending up in two final tables; he took third in in the $10K Pot Limit Hold’em Championship event for $259K and then won his first bracelet and $522K in a $1500 No Limit Hold’em affair.
More recently, Baldwin won a $1000 event at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic for $256K. He also started 2010 off with a bang by taking second in the Eighth Annual World Poker Tour Five Star World Poker Classic for a cool $1 million. All told, he has over $3 million in live tournament earnings.
