CardRunners instructor Pokey is back to continue his lesson on Expected Value. This video goes into the details of how to calculate EV and how understanding EV can help your decision making process, as well as stay off tilt.
Here is the official teaser from CardRunners:
In the second episode of this series, Pokey uses expected value (EV) calculations to consider common river situations, exploring the “standard ABC TAG” lines that most people take by default and contrasting them with alternative lines in an effort to find ways to squeeze more profits out of the river.
Here is a note from Pokey that appeared at CardRunners inside the video’s thread:
The target audience for these videos is people who are new to Expected Value calculations. I don’t want to lose my audience by jumping to the conclusion and leaving everybody scratching their heads wondering how the heck I got there. This is especially true when I’m talking about surprising results — if I’m reaching a non-standard conclusion I’d like people to realize it’s coming from a mathematical computation, not a personal conjecture.
As to the whole “it depends” side of it, there will ALWAYS be an “it depends” in any poker explanation; my goal was to try and explain WHAT it depends on. If you at least know what factors are going to be most important to consider then you can make your OWN judgement calls at the tables, and that’s where the real profits from exploitation come to bear.
