Mike Matusow talks about his life, poker in 2011 and more in this interview with Poker News Daily.
Nicknamed “The Mouth”, Mike Matusow is one of the most popular poker pros on the planet. He has three World Series of Poker bracelets to his name, each in a different game of poker. His first bracelet came in 1999 when he won the $3,500 No Limit Hold’em event for $265,475. His second bracelet was won in 2002 in the $5,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split 8 or Better which grossed him $148,520. His most recent bracelet was won in 2008 when he won the $5,000 No Limit 2-7 Draw w/Rebuys event for $537,862. Despite never having won the WSOP Main Event nor any World Poker Tour titles, he still has an estimated $7.4 million in career tournament earnings.
In our interview he’s first asked how 2011 has started and Matusow responded, “Good, off to a great start. Did well in the cash games in Australia, came back here and won big in the cash games here, overall life is going good, can’t complain.”
Matusow is known in poker circles as one of the best Omaha 8-or-Better players in the world. When asked about it he said, “I mean, I’m a great tournament player but I’ll be honest I’ve learned to hate tournament poker. In truth there are so many great players now, and they’ve turned it into a six or seven day grind all the time. I think there should just be four or five 10k events and I like what Jeffrey Pollack is doing. I just think they are going to eventually bust everybody and chasing the tournament trail will break people.”
In his usual candid demeanor, Matusow went on to talk about how most poker pros are much better spent at cash game tables as opposed to playing long and difficult high buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournaments when so many players can be making good money playing other poker games at the cash tables.
Mike Matusow is a sponsored pro at Full Tilt Poker.
