Poker News

I am really good at poker. So are you. We are great, great poker players and it couldn’t be more obvious. But sometimes, when something is wrong with our computers or we’re sick or our witch doctor neighbor puts a hex on us, we have a down day at the virtual poker tables. Once in a while, through no fault of our own, our session ends in the red. WSOP.com, the World Series of Poker-branded online poker room, would like to help in those moments that the world goes crazy.

Through January 2nd, 2016, WSOP.com will give a helping hand to some players who lose money on their site. Not everyone is going receive a benefit, but it could happen, so fingers crossed.

In the “Got Your Back” promotion, players who lose money during one of the two-week qualifying periods can receive up to $25 back from WSOP.com It’s not much, but it’s something, and that’s more than most people normally get. Players must opt-in to the promotion (I hate this – I wish poker rooms would automatically opt everyone in to every promotion, but I suppose it’s a way for them to run a promo and at the same time potentially save some money) for one or both of the qualifying periods. The first started yesterday and runs through Saturday, December 19th, while the second begins Sunday, December 20th and goes through Saturday, January 2nd. Those who want to opt-in to both periods, must opt-in to each separately.

In order to qualify for a Got Your Back payout, a player must play at least 50 cash game hands at stakes $0.01/$0.02 to $0.10/$0.20. Note that the qualifying stakes are quite low – this is clearly aimed at recreational players Pros need not apply.

The biggest catch of this promotion – and it’s a crappy catch – is that to qualify, players must deposit at least $50 during the qualifying period. On top of that, to be eligible during both periods, players must deposit $50 in each period. Yeah, I know.

Each drawing, so one for each two-week period, will award prizes to 100 players. Players who are selected (remember, you must play at least 50 hands and deposit at least $50 during one or both of the two-week periods to be eligible) will receive 25 percent of their net losses in cash. The maximum award is $25 and the minimum is $2. Thus, if someone finishes down just a penny and is selected in the random drawing, he will actually come out ahead, as he will receive $2 minimum.

Net winners aren’t ignored in this promo and are eligible to be in the drawing as long as they complete the requirements. Net winners who are selected will receive a $1 WSOP.com tournament ticket. Not thrilling in the slightest, but hey, you already won money. Be happy about it.
