Just as the dust was settling in the poker world, another controversy flares up, this time between Boss Media and its former member Poker Trillion. The poker site left the Boss network under a cloud on April of this year, and filed a lawsuit against the server providers soon afterwards.
The lawsuit was filed under a barrage of contradictions: while Poker Trillion accused Boss Media of breach of contractual obligations and sued Boss (and online payment processor WebDollar) for “alleged fraudulent and potential criminal activities by various personnel,” Boss media dismissed Poker Trillion’s claims through a statement declaring, “Poker Trillion is a former customer of Boss Media who was terminated because of rake back violations. They have since then repeatedly tried to disrupt the Boss Media business through the dissemination of groundless rumors.”
These “groundless rumors” were taken seriously enough by the First Hall Court on Malta, which accepted the case in April and – according to Poker Trillion – issued a judgment in the past few days. Pyrah released a statement in which he proudly announced, “Today’s decision will in effect bring down Boss Media’s operation in their licensed jurisdiction of Malta on September 18, and any partner still on the International Poker Network at this stage will see their service closed down too.”
Apparently Judge Gino Camilleri in the First Hall Court on Malta authorized Trillion Ltd. to seize Boss Media’s Malta servers, which should go out of commission by September 18. The judge also ruled a hefty freezing order on Boss Media, and denied them the right to appeal.
Pyrah is naturally jubilant about this outcome, and his statements are nothing short of triumphant: “It should also be noted that despite appeals from Boss Media, we’ve been successful in every one of our applications that we’ve filed with the courts in Malta and this includes having our initial garnishee order increased from Euro 5million to Euro 20 million earlier this month. This in turn means that there is now a Euro 20 million freezing order on all Boss Media’s assets within this jurisdiction, and in accordance with European law we will be applying for this to be executed all over Europe.”
However, the situation is far from cut and dried: Boss Media officers have issued a statement where they again dismiss Poker Trillion’s comments as “reckless” and “groundless.” Boss Media’s statement reads: “Poker Trillion’s recent comments are a reckless attempt to support a legal action that is without merit and initiated as retribution for their dismissal from the Boss Media network. To be clear, player funds are not affected by the current proceedings. All players’ funds are held separately under the control of the Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority and cannot be seized by any court.”
It remains to be clarified whether Poker Trillion is saying the truth – which would mean they are entitled to seize Boss Media’s funds and servers – or if Boss Media is right in saying Poker Trillion is just building negative hype. We will keep you updated on any developments.
