Maurice Hawkins has done it again. On Monday, he won the $600 No-Limit Hold’em ring event at the World Series of Poker Circuit Harrah’s Cherokee stop, giving him a dozen WSOP Circuit ring wins in his career. This pulls him into a tie with Valentin Vornicu for the most rings in the history of the Circuit. Only one other player, Joshua Reichard with eleven, has double-digit wins.
I was going to say in the above paragraph that Hawkins is “arguably” the most successful WSOP Circuit player of all time, but really, there is no need for the “arguably.” In addition to have the most rings, he has also won the most money on the Circuit, amassing $1,668,698 in earnings. So most wins and most money, yes, I would say he is the most successful Circuit player ever. He is also fourth in total cashes with 87, though I would guess that he doesn’t really care about that, considering he tops the money list.
Douglas Carli has the most cashes with 145, followed by Charles Moore with 104 and Christopher Conrad with 101.
“It’s not really about the top spot. I still got the most money earned, most everything on the WSOP Circuit, so it’s pretty much the standard, but that makes me feel like my game has evolved to where it should be,” Hawkins told the poker media after his victory. “I look forward to bigger and better things. It’s all about positivity and good flow of things going the right way.”
He added that he had the perfect combination of luck and skill during the Harrah’s Cherokee tournament.
“I ran exceptionally well in every spot. And I played really well. I got a lot of third and fourth in the last couple of months. It feels great to finally get back to the winner’s circle. I don’t look at myself as a third-place finisher in any tournament.”
Hawkins had already made seven final tables this year prior to that one, so there is no doubt that the win likely came as a relief to him.
Hawkins has qualified for the season-ending WSOP Circuit Global Casino Championship, to be held in August at the same Harrah’s Cherokee where he just won. Though he did not win a ring, he was the casino champion at Hard Rock Tulsa in March; casino champions automatically qualify for the Global Casino Championship.
