As bad as things are right now with the COVID-19 pandemic, boy, what a time it must be to be an online poker player. Provided you have the funds for it, I suppose. Stuck at home, some of the prime forms of recreation right now are video games and online poker. My kids and I have done lots of the former, but unfortunately, sitting in the Bible Belt, I can’t really take part in the latter (ok, technically I could if I really wanted). If I could, I would be all over PokerStars this week, as the MicroMillions 17 has begun.
As PokerStars says, MicroMillions is “The Tournament Series Everyone Can Play.” That applies especially to people like me, the low-rollers of the world. I mean, that’s what the MicroMillions is all about: bargain basement prices and some tournaments with hefty guaranteed prize pools.
There is a lot of action packed into short time frame with MicroMillions 17. It began yesterday, Sunday, April 19th and only goes through this coming Sunday, April 26th, but in that span there are 100 events. One of the nice things about that is that with so many events per day, there will always be something that can fit into everyone’s schedule.
The most expensive buy-in (and correct me if I missed something) is just $11. There are 30 events with a tiny $1.10 buy-in – right up my alley.
Most of the vents are of the No-Limit Hold’em variety, though there are variations within this category. There are also game types like HORSE, Omaha, Stud, and Razz on the schedule, as well.
The highlight of the schedule is the MicroMillions Main Event, the Sunday Storm Anniversary, on the final day of the series. The buy-in is just $11, but the prize pool is guaranteed to be at least $1 million.
Most PokerStars tournament series have a leader board, but I am uncertain if there is a MicroMillions leader board this time around. There is a link to the leader board on the MicroMillions page, but it ends up linking to MicroMillions 16. Considering there is no mention of it on the PokerStars blog post, my guess is that this is one of the few PokerStars tournament series without a leaderboard.
The one promotion for MicroMillions 17 that PokerStars is promoting is the chance to earn a ticket into the $25,000 SCOOP freeroll. Those who play in the $11 Sunday Storm Anniversary are eligible for the promo. According to the terms, “the first 50,000 players that do not cash the tournament will receive the prize of a SCOOP Freeroll ticket upon bustout.”
This could use some clarification. Does that mean the first 50,000 who bust out of the tournament or the top 50,000 finishers who do not cash?
Either way, I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. It’s just a freeroll. Enjoy playing in these low buy-in events all week. Do it for those of us who can’t.
