Gus Hansen is a very successful poker player, and is currently the only player who has won three World Poker Tour open tournaments. His live tournament earnings exceed $7.2 million. He also started a website that became successful and was eventually sold for millions of dollars.
Hansen has been known for having money problems in spite of his successful poker career. This year has been a real challenge for the Danish player as he has struggled with the high stakes games at Full Tilt Poker. He got off to a hot start, and in the first three months of the year he increased his bankroll by around $3 million. But since then his game has not improved and his bankroll has been affected month after month – he is currently down over $2 million.
Considered by some poker players as the “fish” in the high stakes games, Hansen has proven that his game is among the best and that he is a fierce opponent at the tables. He has had more success in live tournaments than online in the past years were his online game has lost him money. An important factor that could be taken in consideration is that he plays against some of the toughest opponents online almost everyday, names like Patrik Antonius, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Phil Ivey and many others.
Gus Hansen is not the only player who has struggled this year at the high stakes tables at Full Tilt Poker. One of the most successful high stakes player, Urindanger, has had a terrible year compared to his performances in recent years. Tom Dwan has also faced some incredible downswings this year, after having a very successful 2008.
