PokerStars

PokerStars has managed to do it again, breaking all previous records at the current PCA. But there is one record that will stand and that has created some controversy among the players participating in the tournament. The payout structure has been modified and more players will be receiving money after their performance at the main event. But tthe money had to come out of somewhere, meaning the top prizes have received a deduction that benefited the rest of the field.

Not all players are comfortable with the changes performed to the payment structure: PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu has expressed his dislike of the imposed structure because players that go deeper in the tournament will end up with less money. Negreanu is not the only player that believes that the payout structure should have remained the same, Mark Newhouse and many other players are disappointed with the decision PokerStars took concerning the prizes.

But not all players are discontent with the payout structure; PokerStars Pro Barry Greenstein considers that even if the top prizes have been affected there are more places that will see the benefits, so it is a good decision overall.

With the current payout structure the four top prizes will exceed $1 million and the players that make it to the two last tables will receive six figure payouts for their effort at the tournament. Going down, the lowest level will receive twenty five hundred dollars more compared to the prizes that were awarded last year, and more players will walk away with money – with such a structure some believe that no one should be upset.

Another important thing to point out is that the difference between the top prize and third place was $1.9 million last year and that gap has been cut down this year to make things much flatter, which would definitely benefit the top prizes if an eventual chop agreement is reached.
