After finishing ’09 with some terrible numbers Gus Hansen took some time to re-think his entire strategy. After all, recording a loss that exceeds $5.5 for one year’s play has to hurt even the players with the deepest pockets. Gus Hansen’s online numbers are not good he has ended the last three years in red numbers but last year was the worst of all.

The interesting part is that Gus Hansen has had successful live tournament results which have given him three prize pools in the seven digits in the past years, he has also won many pots in the six figure range. Unfortunately he has not been able to convert those wins into his online game. One reason could be the fact that he only plays cash games online and his big live scores have been in tournament play. He might be able to turn his online results by entering tournaments and leaving aside the cash games.

Nevertheless he is doing something different at the start of the year and has managed to win some money, he is almost up $400K for the year so far and if he can keep that winning rate for several months his overall online numbers for 2010 could end up in the positive range for a change.

Another high stakes regular that has scored a significant amount of money this year is Browndog19: he started the year with a downswing that cost his bankroll almost $300K but he managed to turn things around and he is back in positive numbers.

The year has started off cold at the high stakes tables at Full Tilt just like the weather in the northern hemisphere of the world, but as the year progresses things could heat up again. The durrrr challenge could reach the 50K hand limit and a new challenge could be issued, but this time around Phil Ivey could be on the other side of the tables against Tom “durrrr” Dwan.
