UltimateBet.com wrapped up its 10-day UBOC series Sunday with the Championship event, a $1,050 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament with a guaranteed prize pool of $1 million. The end result was a huge triumph for the site, as more than 1,100 players participated for a total pool of $1,115,000, making it the biggest online poker tournament in Ultimate Bet’s 10-year history.
“Over the course of the last 10 days, UltimateBet paid out more than $2.5 million to online poker players in 22 unbelievable events,” stated Phil Hellmuth, who hosted the championship event on Sunday evening. “This series was the epitome of epic for poker fans from all over the globe and our spectacular final championship event will be the talk of the online tables for months to come.”
Hafiz “YUNGMONEY209” Khan labored through a grueling 15 hours and 10 minutes to claim the UCOB Championship early Monday morning after his pair of fours got the best of Shane “THEBUBBLE1” Pacheco’s Qs-10s. With the victory Khan earned $245,188.50, while Pacheco found $144,615.50 in his account. MIDDLEMISS08 knocked Phil Hellmuth out of the event to collect the $1,050 bounty that the online poker site had placed on the 11-time WSOP bracelet winner’s head.
Other big names at the UBOC Championship final table included Thayer “UFC_THAYER” Rasmussen (3rd for $99,792), Dave “DOUBLEDAVE22” D’Alesandro (4th for $71,917), Mohsin “CHICAGOCARDS1” Charania (6th for $48,502) and Steve “ZUGWAT” Silverman (9th for $18,955).
UBOC 2009, which kicked off on January 9, featured 22 guaranteed events and close to $2.5 million in guaranteed prize pool money. To appeal to players who prefer lower buy-in tournaments, UltimateBet this year introduced Mini UBOC, a similar series of poker tournaments that ran alongside the larger stake games. With the exception of the final $1,050 buy-in tournament, each UBOC event was mirrored by a separate Mini UBOC event where players could buy in for approximately 10% of the corresponding UBOC event and compete for a lucrative prize pool.
The winner of the Mini-UBOC Leaderboard, a player with the moniker MLEBAN, was awarded a seat in the $1,050 UBOC Championship.
Hafiz Khan’s UBOC Championship win clinched a first-place finish on the UBOC Leaderboard, earning him a $12,000 World Series of Poker Main Event prize package. Ultimate Bet is also awarding a package to a player that finished 2nd through 10th place on the leaderboard. Those nine players will compete for the package in a freeroll.
