In a tragic story, Apollo Jet, son of Chip and Karina Jett and brother of Athena Jett, passed away on Tuesday morning in Las Vegas. He was just four years old. The entire poker community poured its condolences in through Twitter in a unified show of support.
One of the first Tweets on the topic belonged to Paul Ellis, who called for prayers from the entire poker industry: “”Saddest possible news for Chip and Karina Jett. Respecting privacy, but please pray for the family.” Longtime tournament reporter B.J. Nemeth added, “There can never be enough condolences for yesterday’s tragic news, but everything I can offer is headed to friends in Las Vegas.”
Also sending his wishes was six-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Layne Flack, who remarked, “R.I.P. little Apollo Jett, God needed a good one this time. My condolences go out to the Jett family.”
Longtime online poker staple Jennifer “Jennicide” Leigh gave her condolences to the Jett family: “My deepest condolences to the Jett family… my thoughts and prayers are with you guys.” Also weighing in was UB.com front man Joe Sebok, whose work with PokerRoad has enabled him to become close to many of the game’s top pros including the Jetts, Tweeted on Tuesday, “so sad. so unfair. my heart’s broken today. condolences go out to Chip & Karina and family. lost young son, little Apollo.”
World Poker Tour Executive Tour Director Matt Savage Tweeted, “Our hearts go out to Chip, Karina, and Athena Jett today for the loss of their son and brother Apollo.” 2010 WSOP November Nine member Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi re-Tweeted the following message from his wife on Tuesday: “R.I.P. Apollo Jett our deepest condolences to the Jett family.”
One poster on TwoPlusTwo took the passing to heart, saying, “I have 9 and 8 year old daughters – I can’t begin to imagine what the Jetts are going through. I will say a prayer for the Jetts at Mass this Sunday.” Jay “WhoJedi” Newnum, who is reporting from the Commerce Casino in Los Angeles, took time to Tweet, “Days like today make you appreciate what you have been given. Cherish it & remember how fortunate we are. God bless you Apollo Jett.”
