The APT Macau continues to set new precedents, as the largest cash game in Asia will be held on Friday August 29 as part of the APT events. The minimum buy-in is 1 million Hong Kong Dollars (nearly $130,000) and starting blinds are HK$3,000/6,000 ($380/770.)
The nosebleeds game will be attended by poker greats such as Todd Brunson, Johnny Chan, Kenny Tran, JC Tran, John Juanda, Nam Le, Steve Sung, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Gary Benson and Bruce Parker. Doyle Brunson is definitely not going to miss it: according to APT spokespeople, Brunson Senior has wired in a $2 million HKD buy-in and announced “that’s just the start.” Although the starting blinds are an already respectable HK$3,000/6,000 ($380/770,) blind-raising and straddling will be allowed at the players’ discretion, which means the game is likely to skyrocket into vertigo-inducing stakes – APT spokespeople estimate that at least HK$15 million (over US$1.9 million) will change hands in this game.
The APT’s own CEO Chris Parker is taking a seat in the game too, and he released a statement about his participation in this ground-breaking high stakes game:
I’m so glad we have such soft tables! In all seriousness, we were astounded by the interest in the high stakes cash game – everybody wants a piece of the action. We set the minimum buy-in at HK$1,000,000 but anybody who knows anything about Macau or the potential of poker in this area of the world knows this will be small stakes by the end of the night. It is going to be something very special – when it airs we predict you will witness record breaking pots! You think the action in Vegas is big, just wait and see what comes out of Macau!
Asia’s largest cash game will be filmed, to be broadcast worldwide at a later date.
The APT Macau Main Event is already well underway, with day 1A already finished. Poker legend Johnny Chan has already been eliminated from the $5300 event, along with pros Nam Le, Liz Lieu, JC Tran, both Doyle and Todd Brunson, and WSOP Main Event finalist David Rheem.
