Ireland’s Marty Smyth has arguably had one of the best years of poker of any player on the European continent. On the heels of his double nominations for the 2008 European Poker Awards, Smyth took down the championship in the SkySports Poker Million on December 13th. While the site already celebrated Smyth’s championship with a special freeroll tournament, BoylePoker will be opening the doors to everyone by throwing the Marty Smyth Victory Tournament on Tuesday.
Paul Spillane of BoylePoker told Poker News Daily, “Marty’s had an incredible year and we thought we’d do something a little fun, not just for the players and friends who’ve supported him, but for everyone associated with Boylepoker.com too. I’d expect to see some pretty creative play and some interesting chat at the victory tournament tomorrow night.”
Smyth, who also captured a World Series of Poker bracelet and won the World Open earlier this year, will be the main feature of the $10 buy-in celebration that will attract many poker professionals and celebrities. Smyth himself will have a $1,000 bounty on his head for the player who eliminates him. Two other players – BoylePoker $50,000 freeroll winner “mmcgenuis” ($300), and International Poker Open champion Ruairi Coy ($200) – will join him as major “scalps” in the event.
Other celebrities and poker pros will have $25 bounties available upon their eliminations. These players include Kieran “Flipper” Walsh, Rory Rees Brennan, Scott Gray, Rory Liffey, Don Fagan, Andrew Ward, Fintan Gavin, Jen Mason, Dave Callaghan, John O’Shea, Marty Wilson, Katharine Hartree, Stephen McLean, Neil Channing, Brendan Murray, Eddie Hearn, Alan Betson, Chris Rourke, Neil Kelly, Mick McCloskey, Paul Spillane and Ciaran Corbett.
There will be awards given in several categories in the tournament. For the player who eliminates the most opponents, a $100 bonus will be up for grabs. There will also be prizes awarded for last longer bets, the amount of scalps taken, and for knocking out VIP bounties. The structure of the $10 buy-in tournament should provide for a great deal of play, with a 5,000 chip starting stack, nine-handed tables, and 12 minute blind levels.
BoylePoker.com, a member of the iPoker Network, consistently has some of the best tournaments available in the online poker world and its two sponsored pros, Smyth and veteran poker professional Padraig Parkinson, can normally be found playing on the site. Tournaments run around the clock with a $250,000 Guaranteed event on Sundays being the highlight of the week on the iPoker Network. BoylePoker.com also offers satellite events to many of the greatest tournaments around the globe, including the Aussie Millions, the Asian Poker Tour, and its own BoylePoker.com Irish Open in the beginning of 2009.
The Marty Smyth Victory Tournament will take place at 8:00pm GMT on Tuesday. With its $10 buy-in and extra prizes thrown in, should be plenty of fun and excitement for not only those participating, but also those viewing the action.
