Like fellow professional poker players David Williams and Justin Bonomo, Brock “t-soprano” Parker played the card game Magic: The Gathering before eventually turning to poker. Since making the switch, however, he hasn’t looked back.
A long time online tournament grinder, Parker exploded in 2009 by winning two World Series of Poker bracelets, mere days apart. After getting a taste of WSOP final table glory in 2008 – a 6th place in a Limit Hold’em event – Parker decided that what he really wanted was that bracelet, maybe even two. And so, four days after winning the $2500 Limit Hold’em six handed event for $224K, Parker shipped the $2500 No-Limit six handed event for $552K.
Upon striking it rich, Parker had this to say when about his out of whack sleep pattern and the two surreal wins: “It’s kind of like, “OK. I’m tired. I can sleep.” However, when I lie down and start thinking, I have to make sure it really happened. I’m afraid I’m still asleep and dreaming. Obviously, I hoped to win one [a bracelet] someday. I play in a lot of tournaments, but I didn’t think this would ever happen.”
He also went into detail about his heads-up match with Daniel Negreanu in the Limit Hold’em event:
“Negreanu was talking a lot earlier in the tournament about making good folds in Limit, so I was thinking of trying to make bluffs in weird spots, but then I picked up hands. I was lucky if he was going to call me down every time. In Limit, you have to call a lot since it’s only one bet. I didn’t really get to do the things I was planning to do and instead just picked up hands.”
Brock Parker has also had success in various other live events, pushing his total earnings up over $1 million.
