It’s hard to believe that we’ve already hit the second month of 2011, but with the turning of the calendar comes the fun of seeing what promotions online poker rooms have to offer. Cake Poker recently announced its February promotions, which include one geared toward cash game players and one for tournament aficionados.
The first promotion is the return of Cake’s Gold Spree. While aimed at cash game players, it is open to everybody who plays in real money games. In the Gold Spree, Cake assigns a weekly Frequent Player Points (FPP) goal to every player. Players who hit their goals in at least one week will be entered into a free Kamikaze tournament on March 3rd. The prize pools of the tournaments range from $500 to $5,000 depending on how many weekly targets are hit.
For the uninitiated, Kamikaze tournaments are perfect for those who want to take skill completely out of the equation. The game is simple: everybody is all-in pre-flop every hand. Needless to say, Kamikaze tournaments are over in just minutes. They aren’t for everybody, but can be fun for those who just want to gamble a bit.
FPPs are earned through real money play in both cash games and tournaments. In ring games, every player dealt cards in a hand is awarded one FPP for every dollar taken in rake. In tournaments, players are awarded seven FPPs for every dollar paid in tournament fees.
While the Gold Spree promotion is suited for cash game players, tournament players will enjoy the ongoing qualifiers for the 2011 Irish Open. At the lowest level, there are six daily $1.10 satellites in which one player will advance to the Irish Open Quarterfinal for every $11 in the prize pool.
Those Quarterfinal tournaments come in two types: $7.70 rebuy and add-on events and $11 freezeouts. Each variety occurs four times daily and sends one player to the Semifinals for every $77 in the prize pool. The Semifinals are held every Sunday at 2:00pm ET and have a $77 direct buy-in. For every $374 in the prize pool, one player will move on to the Irish Open Final.
The Irish Open Final will take place on the last Sunday of the month and awards one prize package for every $7,000 in the prize pool. The tournament can also be entered directly for $374.
The prize package is valued at $7,000 and includes the €3,500 Irish Open Main Event seat, a five-night stay at the Burlington Hotel (which is where the Open will be held), $1,500 for travel expenses, and Cake Poker gear. The Main Event will run from April 22nd to April 25th. Last year, James Mitchell bested 707 opponents to win the Irish Open Main Event and earn €600,000.
In other tournament news, Cake Poker’s final Super Sundays tournament will be held this month. The $33 tournament will run on Super Bowl Sunday, February 6th, at 2:00pm ET. Note that this is different than the other Super Sunday tournaments, which were held in the evenings. Another change is that instead of the winner’s bonus coming in the form of a $100 gift certificate to the NFL’s online store, it will simply be a $100 deposit into the winner’s poker account.
Finally, for those who want a change of pace from poker, Cake Poker will be holding Tourney Blackjack freerolls throughout the month as well as a cheap WAR competition. The Tourney Blackjack freerolls will feature $200 prize pools and run every night at Midnight. The entry fee will be in the form of loyalty points that can be earned in real money Tourney Blackjack games.
On the day before Valentine’s Day, a $500 WAR tournament will take place, costing just $1.12.
