But we are not Chris Moorman’s mother, so let’s stick to the positives and congratulate Chris “Moorman1” Moorman for becoming the first player in history to eclipse the $10 million mark in lifetime online tournament winnings.
According to the industry’s leading online tournament tracking site, PocketFives.com, Moorman clinched the historic milestone with a $9,651.50 win in Saturday’s $200 + $15, $30,000 Guaranteed event on PartyPoker. In a thread on the PocketFives forum, Moorman posted his thanks to all those that followed and supported him, writing, “Thanks for all the support and kind messages along the way it feels great to finally get there. The last $50k felt so hard lol Now it’s time to get to work on the next 10 million tomorrow!”
And he has certainly already gotten to work, winning $13,352 more since his crowning achievement.
Chris Moorman isn’t just the first player to win $10 million in online poker tournaments. He is also going to be the only one in that club for quite some time. Nobody, according to PocketFives’ stats, has even hit $7 million. Three players are around the $6.8 million mark, while another six have over $6 million. Barring multiple huge scores by one of those people, Moorman will be alone at the top for a while.
The tournament that contributed the most to Moorman’s $10 million was Full Tilt Poker’s $1,000 Monday $2 million, held back on March 28th, 2011, just a couple weeks before Black Friday. He placed third in that tournament, banking $235,592. He has one other cash above $200,000 ($204,000, to be exact): a second place finish in Full Tilt’s FTOPS Event #17 in August 2009. All told, amongst tournaments that qualify in PocketFives’ ranking system, Moorman has won 226, finished as the runner-up in 146, and come in third in 182.
He currently ranks ninth on PocketFives’ worldwide tournament leaderboard, having previous hit number one on 18 separate occasions starting in August 2008. The last time he was the top ranked player in the world was at the end of October 2011. Moorman has also won the most Triple Crown awards, 15, in the history of that PocketFives achievement. The Triple Crown is a rare accomplishment in which a player wins three different tournaments on three different sites over the course of a seven-day period. The tournaments must have at least 100 players and have at least a $10,000 prize pool. Moorman has four more Triple Crowns to his credit than the next closest player.
