The release of an autobiography by poker legend Doyle Brunson will likely be delayed until the middle of 2009, according to a spokesperson at Cardoza Publishing, the company which is set to publish the book. Brunson’s autobiography will involve stories from the eventful background of the face of the poker world, but apparently fans will have to wait at least another few months for the periodical to hit the market. Cardoza Publishing produces books that surround poker, casino games, chess, backgammon, BINGO, and other games.
Brunson has published some of the Bibles of the poker world, including “Super System,” which was released in 1979. It can be found on the bookshelves of every serious poker professional across the globe and, in addition to the main text written by Brunson, includes insights from David Sklansky, “The Mad Genius” Mike Caro, Chip Reese, and Bobby Baldwin. Covered in the 605 pages of text are strategies for winning seven card stud, draw poker, lowball, and hold’em. It retails on Amazon.com for $19.77. A follow-up, “Super System II,” was released in 2004.
His latest release is “According to Doyle,” which came out in 2007. Cardoza’s website describes the book: “Learn what makes a great player tick, how he approaches the game, and receive candid, powerful advice from the legend himself.” It retails for $10.77 at Amazon.com and includes a foreword written by his friend and colleague, Mike Caro.
Other Brunson titles include “Poker Wisdom of a Champion” and “Online Poker;” the latter title came out in 2005. Cardoza’s other authors in the poker genre include Johnny Chan, Daniel Negreanu, T.J. Cloutier, World Poker Tour founder Lyle Berman, and Tom McEvoy. Casino titles have been written for Cardoza by Arnold Snyder, Avery Cardoza, D. V. Cellini, David W. Cowles, Dew Mason, Edwin Silberstang, J. Edward Allen, and Marten Jensen.
Although Brunson’s autobiography is most likely not forthcoming from Cardoza until next summer, at the earliest, Daniel Negreanu’s “More Hold’em Wisdom for Poker Players” is due to be released soon. It retails for $14.95 and contains 50 tips to help make newcomers to poker even better. Also, Dan Gordon’s new book, “Beat the Sports Book,” shows its readers how to “set up betting models and use power ratings and how to separate performance from perception. Gordon shows how to beat the point spreads and money lines, and how to bet underdogs, propositions, teasers, parlays, futures, and much, much more,” according to Cardoza’s website. It is also set to be released shortly.
Cardoza publishing has over 200 books to its arsenal and is based in Las Vegas, Nevada. Titles include “The Basics of Winning BINGO” by Avery Cardoza, “Development of a Chess Master” by Eric Schiller, and “Handbook of Winning Bridge” by Edwin Silberstang. As a Las Vegas publishing company, many of poker’s elite live within a few miles of its offices, which are located on Eastern Avenue. It was founded by Avery Cardoza, a former professional blackjack player who was barred from playing in several Las Vegas casinos. He went on to author “Winning Casino Blackjack for the Non-Counter,” which Cardoza’s website describes as “a revolutionary book that gave non-counting blackjack players a winning method.”
Poker News Daily has reached out to the book’s publisher for comment on the book. None was given at press time.
