Dwyte Pilgrim is a poker player that can no longer be considered one of the game’s best kept secrets, nor can he be considered one of poker’s best up-and-comers. After taking down a televised event on the World Poker Tour, Dwyte Pilgrim is now considered one of the best live tournament pros on the circuit and a man many are picking to have a breakout WSOP in 2011.
What does Pilgrim think of that assessment? He said, “Well, I’m still up and coming! I’m leaning everyday trying to play my best poker every time I sit down.”
Pilgrim is famous in poker circles for dominating the World Series of Poker Circuit events for years. He’s stated in the past that he plays those events because the buy-ins are lower and he adheres to strict bankroll management. What is Pilgrim’s approach to following the tournament trail? He responded, “Oh it’s a marathon. It’s not a quick race and you want to be in the game for a long time. So, bankroll management is key. I came from a loan officer background so I was dealing with money for a long time, so I know how to watch myself and make sure I don’t go overboard. I only put myself in the games that I need to be so I’m just going to keep playing the games that I can afford.”
Pilgrim won the 2009 World Series of Poker Regional Circuit Championship in San Diego for a $125,775 payday which also awarded him a seat at the WSOP Main Event that year. In September of 2010, Pilgrim won the WPT Borgata Poker Open. For his long awaited title at a televised event, Pilgrim banked $733,000. Pilgrim owns three WSOP Circuit Rings which signify Main Event wins on the circuit. He’s known to be extremely friendly off the tables but has earned a reputation as a bit of a good natured talker at the tables.
