The European Poker Tour is in Paris for the first time and the €5,300 is underway. After the full slate of Day 1 flights – of which there were two – Teun Mulder out of Day 1B is the overall chip leader, going into Wednesday’s Day 2 with 347,000 chips.
Though this is the first time in 17 seasons that the European Poker Tour has made a stop in Paris, it is not the first time that the Tour has been in France. In fact, Deauville was part of the very first season of the EPT almost exactly 18 years ago, in February 2005. It was off the schedule in Seasons 3 and 4, but returned for Seasons 5-11. EPT Paris is the first Tour stop in France since 2015.
There were a total of 1,570 entries in both Day 1 flights combined, 661 on Day 1A and 909 on Day 1B. Players are permitted a total of two entries across both starting flights (it cannot be more because of French law), but can still use one of those entries after Day 1B and before the start of Day 2.
As Paris is several hours ahead of where this writer is, Day 2 is already going strong, so we know the final tally: 1,606 entries, generating a prize pool of €7,708,800. The top 239 players will make at least €8,400, while the winner will pocket a sweet cash of €1,170,000. The final nine players will all make at least six figures – first place is the only spot that cashes for a million.
550 players made it through to Day 2, though they of course were joined by a whole bunch of late entrants. Several former EPT champs are still in it, seeking another trophy for the mantle. They include Manig Loeser, Roberto Romanello, Dimitar Danchev, and 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Hossein Ensan.
The remaining players will play through five and a half (and a half!) 90-minute levels on Wednesday before calling it a night.
