The holidays are over and they have taken some bad memories along with them for some players. A few Full Tilt Pros had some really bad runs in ’09 that took their bankrolls on massive roller coaster rides.
Gus Hansen had a terrible ‘09 and his overall results for the past twelve months show how he struggled at the Full Tilt virtual felts. He played a wide variety of opponents in different variations but his Hold’em games did most of the damage to his bankroll. Hansen is considered a fierce poker pro by some but he is also considered a fish by some of the most aggressive high stakes players. Gus has ended the last three years in the red numbers, but by far his worst run happened last year. He brings a lot of excitement to the high stakes tables and will be missed if he decides to take a break from poker.
Tom “durrrr” Dwan, the latest addition to the Full Tilt Team, had been flirting with the poker room for some time before they decided to sign him. The interesting part is that he was signed after having a really tough year at the virtual felts in ’09. Last year started with an unexpected twist that took durrrr’s bankroll to the negative numbers in more than $4 million in just the first two months of play.
The top online poker story of ’09 was definitely Isildur1, who managed to capture the community’s attention after just a few weeks on the scene. Initially, Isildur crushed the Full Tilt Pros and high stakes regulars at the No Limit Hold’em games, but shortly after the thrashings none of them played him and he was challenged to move over to the Pot Limit Omaha games where most of them had an edge over him. Some of the Full Tilt Pros shared their hand histories and studied his strategy and eventually made him drop all the money he had won in the other games against him. Isildur1 has been absent from the virtual felts ever since and it is unknown if he will come back to the high stakes tables to give all the regulars a run for their money one more time.
