We’re about two months away from the 2023 World Series of Poker and as such, online poker rooms have started ramping up their WSOP satellites. One of those poker sites is GGPoker, which has had a tight relationship with the WSOP for several years now. On Sunday, GGPoker launched its “Road to Vegas” promotion, during which it will award at least 500 WSOP Main Event prize packages.
The prize packages include the $10,000 buy-in into the Main Event, seven-days accommodation (July 1-8) and $1,000 cash. GGPoker is hosting daily satellites to award the 500 (or more) Main Event seats. Another 100 seats are guaranteed on ClubGG.
Unless I’m not searching correctly, there are not a whole lot of qualifiers going on as I write this Monday evening. It appears that just one qualifier ran today, but there was some pretty decent value to be had if you had the bankroll. The $1,200 satellite guaranteed two WSOP Main Event prize packages and had overlay until there was about a half hour remaining in the late registration period. Ultimately, there were 28 players; GGPoker awarded the WSOP Main Event package to the top two finishers, $6,000 for third place, and $1,920 for fourth place.
Other satellites will have buy-ins as low as $20.23 (GET IT?). There will also be step satellites to work your way up to the pricier qualifiers, with buy-ins starting at just $1. That’s more my speed, if I lived somewhere I could play on GGPoker.
And not that anyone needs more incentive to play in the 2023 World Series of Poker Main Event, but if you do qualify via GGPoker and then somehow go on to win the Main, GGPoker will pay you an additional $1 million. The one catch, and it shouldn’t a surprise, is that you have to wear a GGPoker patch during the tournament and be ok with the poker site using your likeness for marketing.
Qualifiers who are unable to attend the Main Event can convert their prize package into $10,500 worth of tournament dollars. Those who qualify multiple times will receive $10,500 in tournament dollar for every win after the first one.
Interestingly, players can actually buy a 2023 WSOP Main Event package directly through GGPoker, rather than going through the process with Caesars and the WSOP itself. Those who do this will “unlock all perks of going through GGPoker,” which we would assume means being eligible for the extra $1 million.
