The World Series of Poker has released the schedule for yet another set of 2020 WSOP events. I think at this point we might be able to cobble together a complete or nearly complete schedule from all of the WSOP’s schedule dumps. The one announced on Wednesday was the High Roller Series, a list of nine events with buy-ins $25,000 and up.
The first of the bunch is exactly four months away. The $25,000 High Roller No-Limit Hold’em 8-Handed event will begin May 29th at 3:00pm. That’s a fairly late start, but likely scheduled that way because it is the same weekend – opening weekend of the 2020 WSOP, specifically – that the BIG 50 $500 buy-in event kicks off. The Rio will be packed to the gills.
Five of the High Roller Series tournaments have 3:00pm starts, while two begin as late as 6:00pm.
One of those evening starters is the $25,000 Heads-Up No-Limit Hold’em event, which is scheduled for May 31st. The price point represents a significant jump from last year, when it was “just” $10,000. The World Series of Poker has also capped the Heads-Up event at 64 entrants, encouraging people to signup early.
“We have something for everyone on the 2020 World Series of Poker schedule and the high rollers are no exception,” said WSOP Vice President Jack Effel. “The High Roller Series are great spectacles for the fans and a challenging series of events is sure to bring out the game’s best and those looking to take them on.”
The $50,000 Poker Players Championship (PPC) is slated to begin June 22nd. No-Limit 2-7 Lowball Draw was added to the game rotation. There are now nine total games in the tournament. The rest are: No Limit Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better, Razz, Pot-Limit Omaha, Fixed-Limit Hold’em, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better, and 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw 6-Handed.
The Poker Players Championship and the Heads-Up event are the only two of the High Roller Series that are freezeout tournaments. They are also the only two that will not be played eight-handed. The Heads-Up event is obviously heads-up, while the Poker Players Championship is six-handed.
Following the PPC is the Super High Roller No-Limit Hold’em event with a bonkers $250,000 buy-in.
The three final events of the High Roller Series will all take place during the WSOP Main Event. The last one has a $100,000 buy-in. Remember when the $50,000 buy-in of the Poker Players Championship was jaw-dropping? Those were the good, old days.
