When Isildur1 appeared on the high stakes scene, all the regular and Full Tilt Pros wanted to play against him but he proved to be one tough opponent. He showed a lot of skill and stamina at the tables as his sessions lasted for many hours and he was able to multi-table profitably against some of the best players in the world.
But things started to change because players started to refuse to play against him in No Limit Hold’em and instead made him move over to the Pot Limit Omaha tables. Isildur has a lot of gamble in him and he wanted to play, so he moved to the PLO tables, even tough that was not his strongest game he still managed to have winning sessions.
Some of the players he often faced were: Patrik Antonius, Phil Ivey, Tom “durrrr” Dwan, Brian Townsend, Brian Hastings and Cole South. Isildur1 managed to record a profit of around $6 million in just a matter of weeks, which is an outstanding feat.
But seeing such success at the Full Tilt virtual felts ignited curiosity in the minds of his opponents. Patrik Antonious said that he had to study the hand histories for the first time in his life to be able to understand Isildur’s style of play.
Other players where doing the same as Antonius but only one came up with the idea of sharing hand histories and basically building a database to help decode Isildur’s style of play. It was Brian Hastings with his fellow players Brian Townsend and Cole South who put their hand histories together and created a big database that was then analyzed by Townsend. He spotted patterns in Isildur’s style of play which eventually cost him a lot of money.
After all the analysis of the hands was done, they all continued to play against Isildur1 but this time they had an edge. Being able to spot certain behavior when your opponent bets could win any player a lot of money and that’s what these three poker guru’s, winning $6 million combined in the process.
But going back to hand histories also worked great for Patrik Antonius since he managed to win a pretty big chunk of Isildur’s bankroll.
An important factor that Isildur1 did not probably consider is the fact that sharing hand histories among players is not against their rules and by doing so players could analyze his style of play which would lead to dramatic downswings.
