The high roller event started with an impressive field of players, there are past WSOP champions and past PCA winners just to mention a few major events that the different players in the tournament have managed to take down in the previous years.
The current world champion Joe Cada entered the tournament and his performance in the tournament has been remarkable. He has build a large chip stack after getting involved in many hands against players like the Team PokerStars Pro Andre Akari and Isaac Baron among many others. He currently sits in fourth position on the chip count, the chip leader is PokerStars Pro Dario Minieri, followed by Lex Veldhuis and third place is taken by the Russian player Dmitry Stelmak.
A total of 84 players entered the tournament and after seven levels of play the field has been reduced to fifty two players. There’s still a good number of PokerStars Pros among the field and the High Roller event could end-up in any of their hands just like in ’09 when Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier ended taking the first place prize. Unfortunately for ElkY things have not gone his way and he currently sits with the smallest chip stack, but he is used to being short stacked in tournaments and has been known for making a comeback.
Some of the big names that left the tournament include team PokerStars Pros Barry Greenstein and Jason Mercier; they certainly have the skill but the luck factor has not been on their side. There are still plenty of events available and they might be able to score an important win at any of those.
One PokerStars Pro that has been really active at the biggest PCA events is John Duthie, he made a deep run into the main event and was quite active at the high roller event as well but unfortunately his tournament life at the high roller event was cut short.
Day two will be played today and there will be a tough battle at each table.
