John Dolan was eliminated in sixth place at the World Series of Poker, despite the fact that he came in at second place in chips at the 2010 WSOP Main Event final table. For his efforts, Dolan made $1.8 million which is a huge payday for Dolan.
On the fateful hand that eliminated Dolan, he shoved all-in preflop with Queen Five of diamonds and was looked up by Canadian Jonathan Duhamel, who showed Pocket Fours. A classic race would determine the fate of Dolan, who had earned high praise by chipping up through a ton of aggression when play was down to ten players back in July. The flop was J-7-6 and gave no help to Dolan who needed a Queen or a Five to stay alive. The turn brought a nine, but did put four hearts on the table. To survive, Dolan needed a Five, Queen or any heart (which would result in a chop). On the river, a three of clubs failed to hit Dolan, who left the Rio Hotel and Casino with his Main Event ended.
Dolan wasn’t upset during his exit interview and gave candid and frank answers about his Main Event final table experience. “There’s a bit of it that’s brutal at the final table with how long it takes to get hands out and constantly changing tapes. It’s part of all of it, so it’s all good,” commented Dolan.
He went on to say, “I was satisfied with my play at the final table, and there were a couple of spots where I could have done a thing or two different. But besides that I am happy with it all.” When asked who he was rooting for to take the tournament down, he said, “I’m decent friends with Joe (Cheong), so I hope he wins.”
John Dolan was able to outlast Soi Nguyen, Matt Jarvis and Jason Senti.
