Debuting on Monday, April 26th on CardPlayer TV is a brand new show called “Under the Gun.” The UB.com-sponsored series features longtime industry staple Jon “pokertrip” Friedberg hosting a panel of pros to discuss controversial topics.
A panel of two to three guest pros will join Friedberg on each episode, which will hit cyberspace once per week. On the topics of discussion on the brand new poker television show, Friedberg told Poker News Daily, “We’re going to discuss and debate everything poker, from strategy to headlines to controversial topics that are typically only debated on the forums. Rather than focusing only on strategy, though, we’re going to take it a couple of steps further and provide much more insight into the mindset of poker players.” “Under the Gun” will also profile the lifestyle of the poker community.
While shows like ESPN’s “Inside Deal” and Versus’ “Poker2Nite” are scripted and feature regimented discussion of the week’s headlines, “Under the Gun” promises to provide the exact opposite. Friedberg explained, “It’s basically going to be very unscripted and uncensored. I want to expose the mindset and views of the brightest players in the world. I want to know how their minds work as far as debating the more widely disputed topics and issues.” “Under the Gun” will run for 30 minutes and hit the virtual airwaves every Monday.
Friedberg ran into an executive from CardPlayer at a concert and the green light for “Under the Gun” was given. Friedberg recalled bringing “Under the Gun” to life: “I had already been thinking about it. I miss being more involved with the industry, its lifestyle, and education. I was going to contact CardPlayer to get something going again before I ran into them. The motivation is to have fun and provide entertainment to the poker community.” Friedberg formerly hosted “Stacking Chips” during the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) on CardPlayer TV. Past media efforts have also led him to appear on PokerRoad.
“Under the Gun” will host online poker players and industry figureheads. The unique topics covered will address questions similar to the following:
Is it ethical for multiple players in the same tournament to have the same backers?
What can be done to make live poker have higher integrity?
Are poker software tools like databases fair in online poker?
What should you tip a poker dealer?
“Under the Gun” is sponsored by the USA-friendly UB.com, which makes its home on the CEREUS Network. Friedberg noted, “I’m trying to create something that’s never been done before in poker, but will also appeal to other audiences beyond poker.” Friedberg is a WSOP bracelet holder, having won a $1,000 No Limit Hold’em event four years ago for $526,000. In that event, Friedberg outlasted a top 10 that included Humberto Brenes, Thang Luu, and the World Poker Tour’s (WPT) all-time money-leader, Carlos Mortensen.
Friedberg nearly captured his second WSOP bracelet in 2007, but finished third in a $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em event for $101,000. He’s bubbled three WPT final tables. Friedberg’s “Under the Gun” will join a roster of videos on CardPlayer TV that already features “This Week in Poker,” “The Scoop,” and “Poker Buzz.” CardPlayer’s video library also includes strategy pieces with all-stars like Jimmy “gobboboy” Fricke, Erica Schoenberg, Poker News Daily Guest Columnist Bernard Lee, and Faraz “The-Toilet” Jaka. 2009 WSOP Europe Main Event champion Barry Shulman owns CardPlayer, while son Jeff Shulman serves as its Editor.
