As the Main Event of the European Poker Tour’s London (EPT) stop got underway, the Season 10 EPT London £50,000 Super High Roller came to a close. With more chips than the next two players combined, Germany’s Martin Finger was a strong favorite going into final table play and he did not disappoint, winning the tournament and £821,000.
As mentioned, Finger was in a dominant position to begin the final table with 4.740 million chips. After him there was a steep drop, as fellow countryman Johannes Strassman had 2.215 million and American Bill Perkins had 2.005 million. After them nobody had more than 1.315 million. Everybody’s poker hunk, Patrik Antonius, was the short stack with just 745,000 chips.
And it was Antonius that bowed out first. Within just three hands, his stack had slipped to below 200,000 and on the fourth hand, he committed it all. Holding A♠-5♠, his odds of chop were very high, as Timothy Adams called with A♦-5♣. Adams was able to catch four diamonds, though, eliminating Antonius in eighth place.
About an hour later, November Niner David Benefield, who is continuing an excellent year on the felts, was knocked out in seventh place at the hands of Tobias Reinkemeier. An hour after that, Adams got unlucky when his pocket 7’s fell to Perkins’ pocket 6’s thanks to a 6 on the river and the Canadian hit the rail in sixth place.
Just a few minutes later, Perkins himself was on the short end of the draw in a huge hand. Strassman shoved all-in pre-flop for 650,000 chips with J-9 and was called by Finger, who held pocket Queens. Perkins then decided he wanted a piece of that action, moving all-in over the top with A-J. Finger called that bet, as well, and just like that, there was a three-way pre-flop all-in (and lots of hyphens). The flop came down A-Q-6, pairing Perkins, but giving Finger a set of Queens. The turn and river were uneventful, giving Finger the pot and eliminating both Strassman (fifth place) and Perkins (4th place).
At that point, it was down to three Germans. Less than an hour after the double elimination, Finger knocked out Christoph Vogelsang in third place, setting up heads-up play between Finger and Reinkemeier. Though Finger had a significant chip advantage (around 2-to-1), his opponent hung tough for two hours, though Reinkemeier never really made a serious threat to take the lead.
It eventually came down to a pre-flop raising war before Reinkemeier was all-in with pocket 8’s against Finger’s pocket Jacks. The Jacks held and Martin Finger was crowned champion of the 2013 EPT London Super High Roller Event.
