Considered among the top poker pros in the world, Phil Laak is definitely a serious contender in any tournament he enters. His career earnings at live tournament events exceed $1.7 million, he has cashed a total of eight times in the WSOP and has won one WPT title and cashed six times in those events.
The Party Poker World Open was an exclusive event that allowed only forty eight players to participate. Some big names in the poker world were able to enter the tournament and definitely gave their best effort to win the event.
Each day of play at the tournament qualified only one player to the final table. After seven days of play the seven qualified where: Andy Black, Party Poker ambassador Mike Sexton, Jennifer Tilly, Bodo Sbrzesny, Phil ‘The Unabomber’ Laak, Luke ‘FullFlush’ Schwartz and Party Poker qualifier Jan Veit.
When the final table got underway the first man out was the early chip leader Andy Black. Soon after Black busted out of the final table Mike Sexton followed him. The third knockdown was Jennifer Tilly when her A-J did not catch against Veit’s pocket nines.
The heads-up battle was between Party Poker qualifier Veit and Laak. It only took five hands to decide who would be the next champion. At the end Phil Laak took the first place prize of $250K.
