PartyPoker: Tips From Kara Scott

Over on the PartyPoker blog, Kara Scott took the chance to muse about her recent poker experiences. More specifically, she chose to discuss bad beats and how they can often get into a poker player’s head in a negative way. Let’s take a look at the five things the PartyPoker Pro says she learned from her recent downswing:

1. Self Control. Dropping F bombs during the WSOP will lead to penalties I don’t need. And besides, it’s just bad manners and my parents could be watching. I’m learning to keep the sailor talk to myself.

2. Just because I keep running top pair/top kicker into a set on the flop DOESN’T mean that I should play it scared. It won’t always happen. It just seems like it right now.

3. Runner runner flush, runner runner full house, runner runner straight…. these things suck very much but at least I’m getting my money in very good. It will even out in the long run.

4. Min cashes when you had a big stack and J9 runner runnered a straight against your KKs, all in preflop – not so much fun.

5. Poker blogs are not supposed to be the place to air bad beat stories. Writing them in the guise of ‘lessons you’ve learned’ does not make it okay. Oh, bollocks. Shit. Damn it. I need to re-learn number 1 again.

Alright, so there’s still some anger in there, but she seems to be coping for the most part. Kara Scott will be representing PartyPoker at the 2010 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
