When it comes to poker tournaments, it isn’t always about the cards on the table. Sometimes – especially after you’ve busted the event – you’re going to have to find something else to do. For the leading women’s advocacy group in poker, Poker League of Nations, the answer to that is to get on a boat. That’s exactly what the group will be doing in October when they hit the high seas for a poker cruise, the inaugural PLON at Sea.
PLON Joins with Virgin Voyages
PLON will be sailing out of Miami, FL, beginning on October 22 for a five-day stay aboard the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady. Taking advantage of the WPT at Sea poker room on board the ship, PLON will offer an exclusive PLON Ladies’ tournaments, with several side cash games and other tournaments to fill out the spare time outside the official PLON Main Event. To help with building a field for the tournament, PLON has announced a trio of seats will be given away to potential players.
PLON Founder Lena Evans and the 2021 Global Poker Index Female Player of the Year Nadya Magnus, who has booked her cabin already, announced earlier this week that they will be giving away three (3) cruise packages that will cover the entirety of a player’s stay on the Scarlet Lady. The total giveaway of $5500 will cover the cost of the cruise ($1838), entry into the $200 PLON Main Event, and meals and non-alcoholic beverages for the winners (a $150 bar credit will be tossed in for the adult beverages). The three winners will have to find their way to Miami for the cruise, but the chance at a fun trip and a big tournament score might be well worth the effort.
To determine who receives these three cruise packages, PLON will be hosting an online freeroll tournament. On September 9 (a Saturday) at 1 PM Eastern, PLON will play host to an online freeroll on the PokerStars play money site. You can find out more about the tournament by visiting the PLON Facebook page and heading over to the PokerStars play money site (be sure to visit PokerStars.bet, not the “dot eu” site) to sign up for the tournament.
There will be plenty of rewards for the players who dive deep into the PLON Main Event. All ladies who make the final table of the PLON Main Event will receive PLON and WPT SWAG merch. The eventual champion of the Main Event, in addition to the top cash prize, will also receive the new PLON custom 3D spade trophy and a ClubWPT Diamond membership for one year, valued at $1,800 and which will be donated by Evans.
Event Created by PLON Travel Ambassador
Who was the mastermind behind the inaugural PLON at Sea event? Players will have PLON Travel Ambassador Jennifer Solomon to thank for creating the event and doing the legwork to put the tournament on. In April, Solomon took a trip aboard the Scarlet Lady, which at the time had just opened its WPT at Sea Poker Room. “The minute I stepped in the WPT at Sea poker room on the ship to play in a tournament, I felt that I had finally found the place to incorporate group travel with poker,” Solomon stated. “With Lena’s support, I started planning our official PLON voyage.”
If you’re going to have a poker tournament, you’ve got to have a draw, so Evans invited Magnus to join the ladies on the cruise. “I’m excited to participate in the PLON at Sea event and look forward to meeting women who are also passionate about the game we all love,” Magnus said. “I admire PLON’s mission of promoting women in poker, and how PLON helps to grow women’s confidence and skill levels on their way to competing in a variety of games. It’s important for us to see a lot more women in open fields than there are now, and I believe that with organizations like PLON, we can make that happen.”
Evans is looking forward to the trip as well, especially in how it will allow PLON to continue its advocacy for women in the game of poker. “The most rewarding aspect of Poker League of Nations is we are women helping women,” Evans mentioned. “PLON’s motto is #MoreWomen, and our mission is promoting and supporting women in the poker world. We are so pleased to partner with Nadya Magnus, who is equally known for her expertise on the felt, and her generosity in supporting women to achieve their poker dreams.”

It promises to be a big week of poker and, even if you don’t do well in the tournament, what could be better than a chance to cruise the high seas?
