The first episode of PokerStars’ Million Dollar Challenge featured the unlikeliest of faces as Catholic Priest Andrew Trapp hit the felt in search of a million dollars. Trapp’s first opponent, NBA star John Salley, didn’t put up much of a fight versus the Daniel Negreanu-coached priest. Daniel had an accurate read on the priests’ opponent and in fact Salley looked intimidated at some points during the match.
After winning the first match the priest was awarded a trip to the Bahamas, he said that he would auction the trip off and use the money to help build a new church in his community.
PokerStars pro Vanessa Rousso was the second opponent in the challenge, and she handled the match much better than Salley. This time around Daniel was still coaching but he was not sitting beside the priest, he was in a booth where he got to see the cards the priest was holding and was able to advise the priest on how to play the hand. The match was pretty short and again the priest managed to beat his opponent. The prize for beating Rousso was $25K.
In his third and final heads-up match, Father Andrew had to face the daunting Daniel Negreanu. Fortunately for Father Andrew, luck was on his side and he was able to defeat Daniel, taking home $100K in prize money plus the option to play for one million dollars in the final show.
