Prahlad Friedman is one of the best poker players on the planet, be it in live tournaments or cash games or when he’s playing online. He recently signed a deal to become UB.com’s frontman for their marketing and now bears a UB.com patch at events.
We caught up with Friedman at the recent LAPC Main Event in Los Angeles, which is on Friedman’s home turf. Does sleeping in your own bed and playing in your home city make a difference? Friedman thinks so, “You do, it’s familiar surroundings, sleeping in your own bed, eating good food at home. When you are out there you might eat random food and get sick, or who knows what might happen. I love it.”
When asked how does wearing the new UB.com patch feel, Friedman said, “Ya, it’s feeling alright. This is my second patch appearance so I’m rocking the patch and I’m ready.”
One of the reasons Friedman signed with UB.com was to gain more exposure to the mainstream poker market to do some good in the world. What good or what causes does Friedman hope to assist? He replied, “I just want to do a lot of good. I want to donate a lot of money to charity, but I haven’t decided if I want to do one big thing that’s my own idea or just do a lot of little things just here and there. I’m always taking recommendations from people … but I’m real excited to make a difference.”
Friedman has a World Series of Poker bracelet to his credit, earned in the 2003 $1,500 Pot Limit Hold’em event which won him just over a hundred thousand dollars. As of 2010, he has over $2.3 million in total live tournament earnings. His first name has Hindu roots and he is a noted vegan.
