One of the biggest tournaments to date at the 2020 online WSOP, the $10,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold’em Event (#54 on the schedule on GGPoker), has worked its way down to the Final Four competitors. Of the 128 players who started the tournament, the four – three gentlemen and a lady – outlasted the best the “high roller” world had to offer. In fact, one of the performances was the best ever for the competitor and will see them earn their best cash in a poker tournament to date.
Addamo Rolls Through His Bracket
The first of the Final Four was two-time WSOP bracelet winner Michael Addamo, who had difficult competition but seemed to get through them with ease. In the first round, Addamo took down Connor Drinan and, to get to the Round of 32, Addamo dispatched Shota Hirao from the tournament. The opposition stiffened but Addamo was more than up for it, defeating Gabriel Campanha, Bertrand ‘Elky’ Grospellier and Pedro Waldburger to punch his ticket to the Final Four of Event #54.
Zhang Bests Two Hall of Famers En Route to Final Four
Earning the opportunity to take on Addamo in the Final Four is another “high roller” regular, Michael Zhang. Zhang had arguably the most difficult route through the bracket, taking down David Yan and Sean Winter to reach the Round of 32. Awaiting him there was none other than Poker Hall of Famer Erik Seidel, which didn’t seem to faze Zhang in the slightest as he beat him to move to the Sweet Sixteen. Another Hall of Famer, Daniel Negreanu, tried to stop the Zhang Express, but he failed in his efforts, as did Chris Brewer, sealing Zhang’s seat in the Final Four of this Heads Up competition.
Peters Continues High Roller…Well, Roll
You might have thought David Peters would have had the easiest course to the Final Four, but it turned out to be the most difficult. Of the four players, Peters took the longest time to complete his trek, sending Johan, Sami Kelopuro, Scott Woods, Sergi Reixach and Stefan Burakov to the virtual showers in the tournament. The battle against Burakov was particularly entertaining as Peters had to fight from almost the felt to earn the victory and the place in the Final Four.
MacDonald Surprise Entry in Final Four
There was a Canadian MacDonald who made their way to the Final Four, but it wasn’t the likely persona of Mike ‘Timex’ McDonald. It was the previously unknown Alyssa MacDonald, who had a whopping $6000 in live cashes to her name before the 2020 online WSOP. MacDonald didn’t exactly get her seat handed to her, either, having to go through Brunno Botteon, two-time WSOP bracelet winner and 2013 WSOP Heads-Up No Limit Hold’em champion Mark Radoja, Viktor Kudinov, Ajay Chabra and Belarmino De Souza to take her unlikely place in the Final Four.
Lots on the Line for Eventual Champion
The Final Four will have some time to think about their situation. They will kick back for a week and play out the remainder of Event #54 next Saturday, when the following competitions will take place:
Michael Addamo vs. Michael Zhang
David Peters vs. Alyssa MacDonald
The victors in those two matches will then meet in a best two-of-three Championship Event, with the eventual champion taking home a very prized 2020 online WSOP bracelet (OK, it will be sent to them in the mail) and, arguably more importantly, a payday of $360,480.
