Main Tour
The World Poker Tour has announced the first half of its Season XXII schedule, comprised of four Main Tour stops and seven WPT Prime stops. Seasons used to overlap calendar years, but the WPT finally changed this last year – perhaps nudged in this direction by the COVID-19 pandemic – now keeping each season within a single calendar year.
The 2024 Main Tour begins in Cambodia in January. Running January 17-30 at NagaWorld in Phnom Penh, WPT Cambodia is the only one of the four announced Main Tour stops that is not in the United States. The $3,500 Championship Event will be January 25-29.
After that, the Main Tour picks back up in the spring, starting with WPT Rolling Thunder at the Thunder Valley Casino Resort just outside of Sacramento, California. The festival runs March 7-26 and the $3,500 Championship goes March 23-26.
It’s off to the opposite coast April 3-23 for the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in Hollywood, Florida. The Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood has effectively become the center of the WPT, as it has hosted nine of the ten largest events in WPT history. This year’s Championship Event drew 2,290 entries.
The fourth and final Main Tour stop of the first half of the 2024 schedule is WPT Choctaw in Oklahoma. The festival is April 17 – May 6, while the $3,800 Championship Event runs May 3-6.
WPT Prime
The WPT Prime portion of the schedule is where the “World” comes from in World Poker Tour. It starts off January 26 – February 5 with WPT Prime Aix-en-Provence in southern France, just north of Marseille. From there, it’s over to WPT Amsterdam March 15-23.
After those two European stops, there is a unique offering that’s not actually on the WPT Prime schedule listed on the website just yet: WPT Voyage. The tournaments – both a Prime and a Main Tour event – will take place during a Virgin Voyage cruise aboard the Valiant Lady. The ship will launch from Miami, Florida on March 31 and return to port on April 6.
Back across the Atlantic, WPT Prime Slovakia will be held at Card Casino Bratislava April 5-15. At the same time, April 10-23, is WPT Prime Gold Coast at The Star Gold Coast in Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.
WPT Prime Vietnam returns for the third straight year, set for Crown Poker Club in Hanoi May 14-27. The last stop for the first half is Sanremo, Italy, where WPT Prime Sanremo will be hosted by Casinò di Sanremo May 31 – June 10.
It’s hard to believe that we only have about two months left in 2023. There are still three Main Tour stops to go this year: WPT bestbet Scramble, which kicks off this week, WPT Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open in the second half of November, and the WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas, which begins at the end of November and goes through most of December.
