Hall of Famer Mike Sexton hosts this exclusive insider’s look at the World Poker Tour with a complete behind-the-scenes tour into what goes on for an episode taping. This tour was exclusive to Poker News Daily, meaning you will see it nowhere else. The tour comes from the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, CA during the taping of the 2010 WPT Legends tournament.
In this Part 1 episode, host Mike Sexton welcomes viewers to the start of his day at 10:30am from the salon at the casino. We take a look at his very early morning preparation which starts with him picking up paperwork from the WPT team. This paperwork is shown on camera, which tells Sexton where players are sitting, the stack sizes of all the players and all their biographical information. Sexton explains where the information comes and also gives some very helpful tips for those who are fortunately enough to make a final table at the WPT for taping on Fox Sports.
Sexton shares his experience and perspective while getting his haircut and nails done by the salon staff. In a hilarious take, Sexton explains that he really enjoys getting a “Salon Ménage à trois” which definitely puts him in a good mood and looking sharp before a broadcast. We also find out if many poker players get manicures, straight from the mouth of the salon manicurist herself.
After his hair is cut and his nails are done, Sexton goes into the back room for a shampoo and quick neck massage. Afterwards, he explains what’s the absolute key to world peace (hint: it’s a neck massage every day!). We then see the end of the first part of Sexton’s preparation before every broadcast as he ties his neck tie and heads out to wardrobe and makeup.
We would like to thank the World Poker Tour for providing exclusive backstage and insider access. We encourage all of our viewers to come back tomorrow for some very interesting backstage footage which also covers some of the rehearsal process for the talent of the broadcast.
